Are you afraid of the dark? Perhaps we have seen that question one time too many. But if you think about it, most of us when we were children or perhaps until now were frightened of the dark. What is in the dark that we fear the most? Is it the things that we might see? Or is it the things that we can't see? Ghosts, ghouls, monsters and spirits are the staples of Halloween. We often attribute fear to things that we can not see or understand, although these are things that can not hurt us physically. What if the entity that is truly terrifying is something more concrete?
Legend has it that when you chant "bloody mary" 12 times in front of a mirror at the stroke of midnight, you just might see your soul mate, a frightening monster or the devil. Mirrors, they say, are also portals to another dimension. What is it about mirrors that fascinate us? Is it the possibility of seeing something that we long to see? Or is it the affirmation of seeing something otherwise we wouldn't have known?
What if the creature that you see staring back at you is the creature that you fear the most? Forget ghosts, monsters and goblins. This is no horror movie, this is frighteningly real.
Looking back at the mirror, what do you see?
